The Art of Building
And that doesn’t just mean in terms of design, but above all constructively. So it’s not just about architecture, but about engineering . The previous proof of structural safety, serviceability and durability must be supplemented by proof of climate compatibility.
From this new point of view, all phases of construction and use have to be analyzed, adapted or newly developed: from the idea to the design, planning, calculation, construction, material acquisition, manufacture, transport, construction on site, the operation, the preservation, the data storage, the upgrading up to the re- and further use and recycling.
The specialist areas required for this go far beyond the subjects traditionally found in construction: in addition to architects and civil engineers, specialists from the following disciplines are required: process engineering, materials science, biology, chemistry, computer science, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, microelectronics, robotics, logistics, Sustainability research, history, data analysts, sociology, law and political science.
The work areas of the LAB are in the following and above all in their connection:
In combination, this leads to the following questions and research topics:
“We need the paradigm shift in construction.
Not tomorrow, not the day after tomorrow, now.”
The mission of the LAB Lausitz Art of Building is to implement the largest paradigm shift in the construction industry to date: to transform all construction and the use of the built environment into a climate- and resource-neutral, durable, variable, aesthetic and value-creating construction method.
