Building the future is indeed a topic of debate – but in research it runs rather small. “The world needs new resource-efficient and climate-neutral materials,” says the civil engineer. His LAB wants to remedy a grievance of modern life that is widely underestimated: Building as we practise it devours part of the planet for ugly utilitarian architecture. Curbach wants to do research against this in Lusatia – and establish a model region for sustainable building.
