Biomaterials –

Being able to apply our methods from medical-biological research to something as crucial as revolutionizing construction opens up very interesting new possibilities!

Michael Gelinsky – Expert in Translational Bone, Joint and Soft Tissue Research

Michael Gelinsky is an expert in biomaterials, tissue engineering and the use of additive manufacturing processes for biomedical applications. His research group was the first in the world to “print” living microalgae and later plant cells (green bioprinting). With funding from the BMBF’s “Biologization of Technology” ideas competition, this technology is now set to be used to employ carbonate-forming microorganisms in the form of living bioconcrete as construction materials (BioCarboMin Project).
